"And the Poor Man Cried"

And the poor man cried, but shed no tears. He had money, but paid no time.

He lived in hell, yet never got burned. He exuded health, but lived in pain.

He had direction, yet remained lost. He walked on eggshells, yet never left home.

He knew his end, but lost the beginning. He wears a mask, but it’ under his beard.

He talks to people and they never answer back. He longs for love, yet loves to hate.

He lies on his back, yet he stands for nothing. He has needs, but wants peace.

He enters his head, yet locks the doors of his mind.

He lives with hunger pangs, yet is never hungry.

His will is for right, yet his will to live is all that is left.

He has one window, yet it is boarded to his soul.

He reads a lot, yet never opens a book.

He doesn’t remember, yet never forgets. He looks in the mirror, yet cannot see.

He is everyone, yet he is no one. And the poor man cried.
