Artist's Description

So often life appears harsh, cruel, unforgiving in its seeming need to bend us until we break. But perhaps it’s humiliation is simply the act of pushing us to see ourselves through humble eyes….a perspective that I find, paradoxically, uplifting, encouraging, healing….

Distinctive leaning trees can be sighted along the Brand Highway within the shire of Greenough (near Geraldton WA) Australia. The effect is the result of salt laden prevaling southerly winds off of the nearby Indian Ocean. The side of the tree facing toward the sea is ‘salt and sand blasted,’ weakening the tree on that side and causing it to lean with the wind. I was fortunate to capture a small rainbow in the distance while a prickly Cockatoo kept watch from the tree’s highest point, warning me occasionally to keep my distance from their nest there in the knothole about a meter to his right. His mate emerged shortly but I failed to capture the shy girl’s image.
