Artist's Description

This image is based on the icon of The Mother of Mercy, Our Lady of Ostra Brama by the unknown artist, circa 1620, Vilnius.

I pained it by an old method; using hand-mixed, pure pigments and an egg as a medium, on a carefully prepared, aged board primed with many layers of gesso which when set, I engraved to obtain a relief-sculpture effect.

The icon is gilded with real gold.
