Rainbow Flip Flops

Rainbow Flip Flops

I was making my way across Tibet headed for Everest. I was in the market for a fine flip-flop that could stand the riggers and harsh terrain of the Tibetan countryside. At about 18,000 feet I happened upon a yak herder and his 3 lovely Yak herding daughters. I was immediately intrigued with their footwear. Being that herding Yaks in the mountainous terrain of Tibet can be particularly hazardous I was compelled to ask, “Where did you pick up those bitchen flip-flops?” The girls, being ever so eager to please, said in unison, “We got them from Clarence the Rainbow Flip-Flop guy!” Anyway, to make a long story short, at about 22,000 feet I caught up with Clarence. He had a wonderful array of Rainbow Flip-Flops stuffed into a backpack. I asked if I could see what he had on hand and he gladly began to scatter his flip-flop load all over the dangerous ledge on which we were standing. All of a sudden I saw a pair that captured my heart and mind…I began to shake with delight! I new in my heart that this pair of Rainbow Flip-Flops had to be mine. I pulled out my wallet, not realizing that in the Tibetan culture pulling out a wallet to pay for anything is an extreme insult to the Tibetan people. My Sherpa was unsuccessful in grabbing my arm. Immediately I knew that I had made a grave mistake. So I said, in a very humble contrite tone, "Please, Clarence, O mighty Rainbow Flip-Flop man of Tibet…please forgive my ignorance at the intricacies of your culture. Please allow me to buy this pair of Rainbows…what do I possess of value that would compensate you generously for your handsome Rainbow Flip-Flops? He looked at me with narrow, angry eyes and said, “ooga…hooga…nooga” which in his Tibetan tongue meant, “Crazy American, because you’re an idiot I’m giving these to you as a gift to promote global cooperation,
enhanced Human Rights, Economic Revitalization and the world domination of Oprah.” I was blown away! I couldn’t believe this amazing gift in the name of world peace and harmony. I took my Rainbow Flip-Flops and continued on till I reached the summit of Everest. There, standing tall, feeling proud, I displayed my Rainbows AT THE TOP OF THE WORLD! Unfortunately, my camera didn’t have any film in it so I didn’t get any of the cool pictures I had my Sherpa shoot. That’s how I came by my first pair of Rainbow Flip-Flops.
