Artist's Description

Colorized photo from 1910
Original Title: Start of yacht race
Location: Central Park, NY, Conservatory water

It’s tough to be a kid in the early 1900’s, you had to work all day, in all kinds of conditions. There was little time to ever have actual fun… And then when you had the chance on a beautiful day to play with boats bigger than you are… The only thing you can is watch the adults play with them. Kids can only watch.

This is Central Park in New York City, this is a very large park. Somewhere in that park is a pool known as Conservatory water, today its known as model boat pond, for obvious reasons.

Since 1857 since this location was built, this was the place to sail toy boats. Boats all seem reflect their counter parts, with every year that this pond is used. Even today people sail boats here.

Some of the boats became very advanced, complete with remote control rigging, thanks to Nikola Tesla, these boats however seem to be stick powered.
