Artist's Description

“Medusa” © Mieke Boynton

Medusa was a goddess who, according to Wikipedia, was “a monster, a Gorgon, generally described as a winged human female with living venomous snakes in place of hair.” When I first looked at this photo after my flight, her name popped into my head and I still think it fits – somehow beautiful and ugly at the same time, with those snake-like rivulets running into the larger body of water. I don’t really like the colours, but I find them oddly compelling. Especially because I know that this area is normally just grey mud and we waited for a neap tide so we’d see some colours. So there you go! :)

Taken near Derby, Western Australia.
Nikon D810 / Zeiss 100mm
