Little Horn reflected in the Twisted Lakes, Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, Tasmania, Australia.
You get up in the darkness, try not to dwell on the fact that it’s cold and there’s likely to be ice on all the rocks, and that you have a couple of hours’ hiking ahead of you. You join a bunch of others at Dove Lake carpark at 4am, and think much more about a warm bed than sunrise. You turn your head-torch on, and put one foot in front of the other (grateful that it’s not as icy as they said it would be), all the way to Twisted Lakes, where you huddle, cold and shivering, waiting for the light…
… and then it comes.
Pure Magic. Just for One Moment.
