Accepted into 1X (One Exposure)... YAY!!!

I think most photographers know about the 1X Website … you may have (like me) perused the website in wonder and awe and gained a new respect for photographers like Mel Brackstone who has HEAPS of photos on there… or possibly (also like me) submitted several of your best and then, over time, despaired of ever getting a photo accepted, and then, quite possibly, despaired of ever achieving that kind of photography… (my experience again)…

Well, I FINALLY GOT ONE IN!!!!!!!!!!!!

So much amazing stuff has happened to me this year… but this is absolutely the icing on the cake. I don’t think my year could be better. I’m absolutely over the moon!!

So… I’m guessing you’re wondering which one? (Unless you’re secretly hating me right now because you are in the category I was in prior to today… which I

Oh, and since I’m not as altruistic as I’d like to be… this journal does contain

Thank you, anonymous buyers!

I have resisted writing journal entries about sales, because part of me thinks they’re a bit dodgy and a bit “ooh, look at me!!”……….…

……..but I really don’t like the idea that someone here HAS bought something and I haven’t said “thank you!!”… so if it’s you who bought any of the following, I just wanted to express my sincere gratitude.

I don’t know who you wonderful people are, but you have been the cause of much happy dancing in the kitchen!

And thank you also to my not-so-anonymous buyers – Tula, Jonathan, Mel, Tempe, Dieter, Mischa, Iwona and Neil & Di … it means so much when artists decide your work is good enough for their walls (or to wear!!)

And while I’m at it, Gary – thanks heaps for the book. It’s not only informative, but it’s making me laugh!! :) :) :)

I need a new computer... Mac or PC???

My poor old computer that I bought back in March 2008 is tired and old and doesn’t like things like YouTube, fancy webpages, or just being active for too long. All these things make it crash. Sigh.…

It’s clearly time to get a new computer. But I don’t know what to get. So I’m asking you!!

Basically, all I use a computer for is:
- to play on RedBubble, ADPOTD and Shutterbugs
- to edit photos (with CS4)
- to check emails (hotmail)
- to occasionally write reports or make spreadsheets (Word and Excel)

I don’t need anything fancy, but I want a computer that will enable me to do all of the above (sometimes at the same time) without having to wait for ten minutes for things to load. I also don’t want a laptop… a good desktop computer with a generous-sized screen would be perfect. My budget is around

My Exhibition Opening :)

Well, my Exhibition Opening happened and it was more awesome than I could have possibly dreamed!…

(I DID have a dream about it actually… I dreamed that it was kind of hijacked by a drama troupe and an MTV music video cast… but that’s a whole other story!!)

I’m kind of having trouble putting my feelings into words…. but fellow Bubbler and Derby resident Mark Ingram took some fabulous photos on the night so I’ll let them do some of the talking!!

Thanks so much, Mark !!! Please go and check out his work… he is a fantastic photographer!

… and here’s one from whoever I gave my camera to (I was so flustered that I can’t remember! Mum’s the one in the blue top… she’s the best!!!)

I was amazed by the support shown to me by the locals. I couldn’t believe how many people showed up! For a little tow

The New Cafe: My work at "Indulgence"

I just thought I’d share a little excitement with you……

I think it’s every artist’s dream to walk into a room (that isn’t in his/her own house) and find their own work adorning the walls…

Well, it’s a dream come true for me!

“Indulgence” opened its doors on Monday, July 25th and it has been a huge hit! I have sixteen prints on the walls; all are for sale. However, because I’m totally new to these things, I didn’t think about what would happen if someone actually bought one (ie. empty wall space!!!) so to buy me some time to buy some more prints, I made the decision not to make them for sale until Sunday August 21st.

Why Sunday, August 21st?

Sunday, August 21st will be the Official Exhibition Opening! 4pm – 6pm at “Indulgence”, Nevill St, Derby, Western Australia.

...and it just keeps getting better!

Well, I thought being asked to hang my paintings on the walls of a brand new cafe was the ‘bees knees’, but on Saturday night, I found out that I wasn’t quite at the summit of my good-luck mountain yet ……

… because although the winner of the “Prints on Canvas” section was announced as “Mike Boynton”, the name of the winning photograph in the Kimberley Art Prize was A Kimberley Skyscape and I was pretty sure that mine was the only one with that title!

It is the first Major Art Prize I have won, and I’d like to thank the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley for hosting such a prestigious and acclaimed event, and the judges for selecting my photo, and Buru Energy for the $1000.00 in prize money (yes, as my young friend Rori so accurately pointed out – “that’s ten hundred dollars!!!”).

But most impo

Wonderful news!!!... but I need your help!

As you know, I live in the remote Kimberley region of Western Australia and have been slowly gathering a collection of photos from the region. I have a market stall every Saturday (where I sell my RB cards, calendars and prints) and there’s a cafe/restaurant in town called The Windmill Cafe whose owners are lovely, and they let me sell my postcards in there.…

They are doing so well (I just got a message five minutes ago from the barrista that they won our regional section of the Small Business Awards tonight!!!) that they’ve decided to open a new cafe. The one that they already have is currently being split into a restaurant area and a take-away area, and the new cafe will be strictly a cafe. I had a meeting with the owner today, and she confirmed that they will be opening the new cafe on

Thanks for all your support!!

I just wanted to write a little note to say a huge thank you!!! to everyone who has been writing such amazing comments on my latest landscape images.…

I never ever dreamed I’d ever say this… but I quite simply can’t keep up! I spent the long weekend (Foundation Day holiday for Western Australians) heading ‘out bush’ to Windjana Gorge and it was just so wonderful to be out under the clear skies, taking photos of dragonflies, chatting with travellers from around the world, and ‘soaking up’ the incredible atmosphere of this amazing Devonian Reef (see here if you would like to learn more about Windjana Gorge). I arrived home just after 3pm, and after having a nap (long distance driving usually makes me a little weary!!) and some food, I logged on to RedBubble. It’s now 8:45pm and I’m still her

Thanks ADPOTD, Thanks Camera Magazine, and Thanks Mystery Buyer!!

Well, many of you already know this because you are fellow members of the wonderful Aussie website Australian Digital Photo of the Day but for those of you who don’t know, I somehow managed to get a gong for the Featured Category “It’s a Small World” in November… and the prize was getting published in Camera Magazine plus a year’s subscription! (Mind you… I personally think it’s a kind of horrid method of torture to regularly receive a magazine showing you all the cool stuff you don’t have and can’t afford!!!!??? But I’m grateful anyway!)…

Thank you Russell and thank you Camera Magazine!! As this is the first mag I’ve been published in, I’m absolutely over-the-moon. Congrats also to Nyema Smith and to Judi Liosatos who are also published on this page for their POTMs. (Their photos are in t

You made my day, mystery buyer! Thank you!

Oh my goodness! Thank you so much to the wonderful person who decided – despite having gazillions of other incredible photos to choose from on RB – to purchase one of mine today!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!…

Needless to say, I’m thrilled!

(I also know it wasn’t Mum because it was bought in $USD ☺☺☺☺☺)

And I know it was ages ago, but if you’re out there, thank you to the equally wonderful person who bought this just after Christmas:

And to whomever bought a card of “Kermit’s Pool” at Karijini National Park, I sincerely hope that the recipient of it likes it as much as you do!!!

I’m sorry for the delayed thanks… but believe me, when I discovered that you’d purchased them, I was jumping for joy!!

Thanks also to Mum, my sister, and my Aunt, who between them, almost managed to buy ev

Australian RB Groups for photographers... did you know???

As you may be aware, I co-host a group with Beth Wilson for excellent Aussie photography of Australian scenery, flora, fauna, architecture, and images depicting ‘our way of life’ called Photographic Excellence – from the Outback to the Coast

On my Christmas break, I took some time to ‘clean out’ a vast number of images from the tail end of the 500-odd pages we had in the group. We have nearly 880 members, so there’s a lot of photographs in there! Whilst doing so, I decided that many of them really should have found a different group to call ‘home’. Which got me thinking… how many groups are there for photos specifically related to Australia??

So I did some searching.

Oh my gosh! There are SO MANY! I’m sure not all of them are fully functional… but maybe all they need is someone to put the
