Artist's Description

This small microbat – White-striped Freetail Bat (Tadarida autralis) grows to 8 to 10 cm. It is found in most habitats, including urban areas, and are fairly widespread throughout Australia. Planting a tree in your backyard can help provide a home for these bautiful animals.

This picture was taken in Melbourne whilst undertaking monitoring work on the species. Monitoring mammals in their natural environment is a valuable tool in the conservation of species to learn about how they use their habitats. After weighing and tagging these microbats they were released back into the wild.
