Artist's Description

WHEN I FIRST SAW THIS BUG I THOUGHT IT WAS SOME EXOTIC SPECIES OF WASP; THEN I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A YELLOW JACKET HOVER FLY; NOW, I’M STUMPED.
THE HOVER FLIES THAT I USUALLY SEE ARE ABOUT A QUARTER OF AN INCH LONG WHEREAS THIS FELLOW IS ABOUT AN INCH AND A HALF; I SAW IT ONCE THAT SUMMER AND SAW IT AGAIN ( ONCE ) THE NEXT SUMMER, BOTH TIMES IN THE SAME FIELD IN THE CUYAHOGA VALLEY NATIONAL PARK, AND I’VE NEVER SEEN ONE LIKE IT ANYWHERE ELSE.
IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFO IT WOULD SATISFY ABOUT 20 YEARS OF CURIOSITY.

THANKS TO MARLEIA MAIN I NOW HAVE AN ANSWER !!!!!!
THIS GUY IS CALLED A FLOWER FLY
