Artist’s Statement:

Michelle Greco works in various media, including photography, pastel, acrylic, and mod podge.

In both her writing and hands-on work, she experiments with textures of tone. Conflict is forever present in her work. Tension, whether internal, relational, or spiritual, is vital since it is prime fuel for change.

Michelle pries her way through difficulty to release her tangled thoughts, striving to grasp some clarity. Through sharing her work, she hopes that readers will find scraps of themselves that they can piece together in a mosaic of their own.

Music is a huge part of Michelle’s process. Everything from screaming vocals, club beats, and acoustic arrangements inspire her. These melodic poles help her depict the intricacies contained in the human experience, though admittedly, there is much of this startling life she has yet to discover. With pen in hand she looks forward to the challenges and summits, finding art in the smallest of moments.

The obligatory “official” writer’s bio:

Michelle Greco is a poet who both lives and teaches in New Jersey. She holds an MFA from Drew University. Her poems have appeared in Painted Bride Quarterly, The Stillwater Review, Edison Literary Review, and the anthology Dear Sister, among others. Her chapbook, Field Guide to Fire, is forthcoming from Finishing Line Press in March 2015. When not writing, Michelle enjoys blogging, photography, and red dresses.

The non-official info:

I paint. I write. I take photos.

I love talking to people and having lively discussions. Perhaps this is why I teach. I’ve been teaching for about three years now at the college level. Literature is fun to teach. Composition is a bit less so (because grammar), but it’s still rewarding.

I probably spend more time online than I should. I like chocolate chip cookies and turtles, though my favorite animal is probably a large cat of some sort (like a jaguar or cheetah. You know, something quick and cool looking).
