Artist's Description

Bayon Temple, Angkor Thom, Siem Reap, Cambodia

Built in the late 12th century or early 13th century, these smiling faces create a sense of calm over the whole temple. There are over 216 gigantic stone faces which are said to represent the faces of the King Jayavarman VII. According to scholars, King Jayavarman VII bears a strong resemblance to the face towers of Bayon.
