Artist's Description

Phnom Bakheng hill top temple, Angkor, Siem Reap, Cambodia., sunrise.

Phnom Bakheng is a Hindu temple in the form of a temple mountain. Dedicated to Shiva, it was built at the end of the 9th century, during the reign of King Yasovarman (889-910)

On this morning our Tuk tuk driver tried to drop us off at Angkor Wat. When we arrived there I saw hundreds of tourist crossing the bridge to get the sunrise shot the lovely planet book had told them all about. I told our driver ‘B’ to carry onto this temple, a few minutes down the road. After a 15 minute walk we got to the top of the hill and the temple. There was only 5 other people there, my kind of place. Had breakfast and waited for the sun. I’m glad we climbed this hill at 5:30am, it was a lot cooler than the heat in the middle of the day.
