Australia Day .. January 26 .. is the only day of the year that the public can visit Government House in Sydney & wander around the beautiful gardens (without booking a tour).
This is next to the Botannical Gardens in Sydney, NSW, Australia.
The front view showed off the amazing architecture better, but I chose this one for the garden colour to frame it.
With lots of visitors on this day, it was hard to get shots without dozens of people wandering in front of the camera. This is the best I got all day.
This photo was uploaded mostly for the Australia Day, True Blue challenge in the Australiana Challenges group.
Designed by Edward Blore, a British architect who was also involved in the architectural design of Buckingham Palace.
Governor Bourke chose to commission an architect from England as he did not believe a local would be up to the job.
Government House has been home to 27 Governors from 1846 to 1996 and has come a long way from the canvas tent Governor Phillip pitched in 1788.
