Artist's Description

Sukkot is a week long autumn holiday. People are supposed to build huts and live in them for a week. This is to commemorate the exodus from Egypt during which people also lived in huts.
During the holiday the four species:
Lulav (לולב) – a ripe, green, closed frond from a date palm tree
Hadass (הדס) – boughs with leaves from the myrtle tree
Aravah (ערבה) – branches with leaves from the willow tree
Etrog (אתרוג) – the fruit of a citron tree
Are taken everyday.
Orthodox Jews try to buy species of the highest quality sometimes for a substantial price. Mea Shearim, an ultra orthodox neighborhood of Jerusalem has big markets selling these species before the holiday.
