It was a summer evening just before sunset, the fortress walls were bathed in this golden light and as I sat there overlooking this rich and glorious countryside, watching the sun set, the only sound to be heard came from the swallows as they sang to their bedtime dance of swooping flights. I still hear them and feel the serene peace of that evening when I look at this picture.
Le Dorat is a charming french town in the Haute-Vienne department in the Limousin region, surrounded by lush pasture land, lakes, rivers and woods. Besides boasting one of the most beautiful churches of the region, the Collegiale Church of St Pierre, and many beautiful small squares and atmospheric streets, in Le Dorat one can find the remains of the town’s 14th century fortress walls, seen partly here in the image with the so picturesquely placed tree.
