Here is my mother, Elizabeth S. Searles………“The Huntress”.
LOL, never the twain shall meet! Can you see her diamond engagement ring on her left hand? Hunting in diamonds?……I guess Mom is starting a new trend!
According to information on the back of the photo this was taken in 1950. This photo is most likely in Upper New York States. It also would have been taken by my father who loved photography in those days. He had about 5 cameras of different sorts and his own dark room in our basement. He worked only in Black and White.
I cannot imagine how my Dad talked Mom into going hunting with him……..but I can assure you. “It was the first and last time”. She was more at home campling in the Hilton than in the woods. I’ll bet she never wore those boots again! I can vaguely remember her talking about this trip……the cabin they stayed in and the “Unwashed Men” in the cabin next door.
I just love this photo because it is so unllike my Mother. She would, of course, try to be a good sport about things, but she was just not “built this way”. While she would fish, killing a deer or bear would be impossible for her. She also detesting camping of any kind…….just too much dirt for my Mom.
I guess, I am a mixture of Mom and Dad. While I could not kill anyting hunting, I enjoyed camping when I was young. But, now in my senior years, I camp at the Hilton too!
