Artist's Description

Believe it or not, our guide told us that Roman men conducted a lot of their daily business transactions with others in this communal commode. A ditch with a small stream of running water was below the row of commodes. The small stream carried the waste far away from the city. The seats are constructed of a large marble slab. They are very well preserved and you can see the dry stream bed where the stream once ran.
