Artist's Description

This series is concerned with the work and detritus of laundry. Of all domestic chores, primarily still assigned to women, laundry is by far the least loveable. This series is both about the domestic chore itself, and about learning to find beauty in the activity.

Laundry lint contains within it a microcosm of the household: dust hair, skin cells and whatever was left on the clothing throughout the day. It is extremely intimate and at the same time kind of repuslive. It reminds me of life and death at the same time.

I like to use the simplest means – whatever is available around the house – to make artwork. For this series, shadow boxes, traditionally for preserving memories, contain rolled balls of laundry lint.
