Artist's Description

Bandy Creek Boat Harbour, Esperance, Western Australia.

My girls, Carys (with the fishing rod) and Evie (with the jazz hands! What the?) fishing for the first time, October 2009. It’s in the blood.

Their father, Matt, is from a family of fisherpeople who hail from Peaceful Bay, near Albany, Western Australia, via Sweden (jumped ship, no less!), and this was, and for a handful still is, their life.

Fishing has been a constant in my life too, with many holidays spent on the edge of a jetty with my Dad, around the Bellarine Peninsula of Victoria and the south coast of NSW, or catching Redfin and yabbies in the Loddon River around Castlemaine and Chewton (before it dried up).

We didn’t catch anything this day, but just being by the water was enough for some kids who have only ever known life in the desert.

The title was inspired by the song Fisherman’s Daughter by The Waifs (2/3rds of the band hail from Albany).

Not the best version of the song, but you get the idea………….
