Wise words from journalist Michelle McNamara, the first wife (deceased) of comedian extraordinaire Patton Oswalt. As the story goes, per an Oswalt comedy special, this is what she would say when people wondered aloud if "[bad] things happen for a reason." This was her take as a true crime author who had reported on a few too many bad things happening to good people. She said to reign in the chaos, be kind.
My take is somewhere in the middle, when it comes to bad things happening for a reason. There are times when things seem to happen for a reason in hindsight, but there are so many completely non-sensical random cases of violence, freak accidents, acts of nature..... (not to even broach the subject of deception, manipulation, and victimization). No. I in all honesty cannot say I think they all always happen for a reason (in the big picture). So, I made this graphic, and first and foremost, because kindness is of the utmost importance. I believe it makes the world go round.
