Artist's Description

A view of the restored homestead. The Orroral Run as it was known was first grazed in the 1830’s by the McKeahnie family. In its hey day the Orroral Run was 5,600 acres and boasted a Kitchen, School House, Orchard and other dwellings.

For reasons unknown (I tried to find out) some of the other buildings were removed and this one was the only one that was restored.

A Wool shed was built by Andrew Cunningham formerly of Lanyon (Lanyon is a larger Homestead near Tharwa) in 1830 and a ball was held to celebrate the completion. Unfortunately the Woolshed has not survived so well. The External Corrugated Iron walls still stand but the internal timbers have deteriorated badly and it is unsafe to enter.

I have a poster of the inside of the Wool shed (my favorite photo) taken by a local photographer more than 10 years ago. I tried to get a siilar shot but it was not safe to enter.

I am hoping that the Wool shed will also be restored as it is a vital part of the Orroral Run history.
