Lend the hand of mortal kindness

Lend the hand of mortal kindness
before our lives have passed behind us.
Let us be remembered well
not cursed into the deepest hell.
Our time is wasted, overthrown,
when we think of self alone.
Self is fine unto a point,
but kindness does our soul anoint,
and when through kindness ourselves we share
happy friendship soon is there.

We to ourselves do not offend,
when we make a stranger, friend.
Alleviating others strife
gives a lift to one’s own life.
Rewards though not immediate,
nor tangibly very great,
one thing must be kept in mind,
oft kindness given, returns in kind.

But forgetting self is a serious crime,
you can’t give others ALL your time.
For every five minutes you give away
keep one for yourself to stay OK,
one must keep mind and body sound
lest nothing left to give is found.

Lend the hand of mortal kindness
To yourself, and those who find us
seeing life with eyes ablaze
striving for the better days
when the land is good and the air is clean
the sky stays blue, and the trees stay green,
and everybody under the sun
helps the world to live as one.
