Lament

It is how I found you, laying lost and limp
Splatters of rain sticking your hair to your brow
Cold and shivering with empty clouds in your eyes
The vague nothing-ness of the world passing through you

It is here that I rescued you and held you
Rocking you back and forward as though it would
Reconnect you to this life, plug you back into feeling
Make you feel that I am here for you

But you looked right on through me to the clouds above
And you lay so calm in your pain and sadness
As though this were a blanket you had to wear
Your desire for the pain making it harder to let go

I looked over your face once so familiar to me
And I wonder where did the inside of you go?
A spirit lay in that head not so long ago
And I beg you to find me here; come back to me

And I blink my eyes, and the clouds just disappear
And I look down to see myself cold and shivering
And my skin pin pricked and wrinkled
And as I breathe I wonder how long I have been laying here

Artist's Description

I used to see myself from the outside rather than from inside. This was too comfortable for me – it is now as time has passed and I have grown, I can write what it felt like being outside myself.
