Artist's Description

Just completed this… Native Pine This image was inspired by a few things: A place on Long Island I used to go hiking and camping in, by myself, called the Dwarf Pine Barrens. It’s the only Dwarf Pine Barrens in the world. It’s an amazing place. All the pines, and that’s all there are, are about 6 feet tall… ninety percent of their mass in underground in roots. The land is sand that used to be beach, and it’s not far from the LI beaches. The sand, it’s all sand, is white. The ground is covered by wintergreen, which I drew, which grows like I drew it, and scrub oak, which I did not draw. Scrub oak is oak trees that are only one or two feet tall… The white sand ground, covered with wintergreen (with red berries), scrub oaks, and the dwarf pines, looks deliberately landscaped and is beautiful and totally unique, I’ve never seen anything like it.

The Native Americans in the drawing is a much longer story. Long story short: I took magic mushrooms when there, twice, I sensed Native American spirits everywhere, and they wanted their land back. I also had this sudden insight that you could become invisible, like the tribe in S. America, by kind of blending into the landscape. I sensed that this was probably something natives used to do, at least some, including the Invisible People Tribe, and that I could do it then, with my enhanced awareness, but don’t worry, I sure can’t do it in my normal state. So, that’s pretty much what went into this drawing.
