Artist's Description

I finally wrote a new poem kisses like peace

There is still freedom in you

I think I was sixteen, old enough to know better
But young enough to not care
I ran up a down escalator…
Something about not backing down from a dare
Maybe it was the freedom in defiance
Or perhaps the disapproving looks of older glares
I could almost hear the thoughts in their eyes
“Wasn’t he taught better” in there cold stares
But I…
I really didn’t care

It made me laugh, it made me feel like I could break all the rules
It made me feel like if I believed in something I could do it if I wanted to

And then, just yesterday leaving work I saw a few young kids
I looked at them and thought these kids don’t have a clue
What do they know about the world and its problems?
But then I saw them do something that, now, I wouldn’t dare to do…

They ran up a down escalator, just not caring if others would think it’s rude
And I thought to myself when did I stop believing in me and start believing in rules?

So I looked down at my dress shoes, tie, and a few hundred dollars of suit
And ran up that down escalator as a reminder to myself… “There is still freedom in you”
