Inspired by still-waiting by RosinaLamberti

It was a great struggle, but I limped my way through the park until I found it, that particular old wooden seat that we used to sit on together, and I waited patiently and kept waiting. During my waiting I started to remember all our meetings on this particular bench. Forty years earlier when we were young and full of dreams and when the colours of the wood were vibrant and bright, unlike now in the all too faded green and red. I remembered bringing the children to play and sharing sandwiches. I remembered many, many wonderful things that not even time can take from me as they are locked away deep inside. I knelt on that same dusty soil to ask you to be my wife, all those long years ago. I remembered how we came to that same bench to see our grandchildren. There are just too many memories and too much pain. So today it was the only place I could think of that I wanted to be just to wait for you to turn up and make everything OK again, our old worn out park bench. But after all these hours of waiting no one showed up to sit with an old man dying of a broken heart and the tiredness in my body reminded me that I am indeed an old man and that I buried you yesterday.
