Artist's Description

As you drive from Quandialla to West Wyalong in a dry year, hope fades. About 30km west of Quandi, the trees run out, and a distant disappearing horizon dances in the heat haze. Dust crusted sheep trot aimlessly from one meagre shade point to another, and the willy-willy’s stir up cones of dust and debris, underlining the desperation of the land.

This year there has been rain. About 50km from Quandi, after crossing the Bland Creek, not far from the turn off to Barmedman, you will cross Back Creek. Six weeks ago you kicked dust off this creek bed as you crossed it, dry leaves crunching underfoot. This is it today. The massive potential of this beautiful land, if only for the water, allows you to understand why farmers literally pray for rain.

I encourage you to go out there and see for yourself, on the road between Quandialla and West Wyalong, miracles, and beauty.
