Words of a Feather

I saw a feather fly without a bird
It spun and hovered in the morning air
And in my mind I spoke without a word
To be heard by an ear that wasn’t there
And all the while the sunlight came and went
And nothing that I said made any sense
Except that I knew roughly what I meant
At least more than the mugwump on the fence
But who’s to say my words are clear as mud?
And just because they seem so out of place
I never signed them off with ink or blood
Nor were they ever entered in a race
The words that came to mind I never wrote
So off into the ether they can float…
