Cynical? (another angle)

While our lives are shackled by
Constraints devised by man
It’s hard to win what e’er we try
I wonder if we can
Platitudes like “follow your heart”
Within a set of rules
Are doomed to fail from the start
For love makes all men fools
So careful if your heart has life
The answer so it seems
Is sever romance with a knife
And keep your love in dreams

But what a bloody waste of love
A sad and sorry fate
As rules of man (or from above)
Now slam shut true love’s gate
And all the feelings lost inside
Make man a surly beast
Who nibbles on the crumbs of love
That could have been a feast
So undernourished now he lives
Or just exists at best
And to the world less love he gives
I’m glad that’s off my chest.
