Macular Degeneration Foundation Photo Comp

As artists and writers, we have a vested interest in maintaining our vision throughout our lives, unfortunately the vast majority of us will suffer some degree of vision impairment before we shuffle off this mortal coil and for many that will be debilitating. Macular degeneration is the leading cause of blindness in Australia.

“The Macular Degeneration Foundation is a charity that is committed to reducing the incidence and impact of Macular Degeneration in Australia. The Foundation achieves this through education, research, support services and representation. Raising awareness of the disease is a key objective of the Foundation.”

Research into this condition helps not only those in Australia, but throughout the world.

This photo competition is open to Australians who fit into the categories set out in the terms and conditions

The Macular Degeneration Foundation (MDF) invites you to submit your photograph and include 50 words or less that explains how that photograph conveys the theme, ‘eyes on the future’.
Your unique interpretation is what this competition is all about – celebrating the world through your eyes.

From my reading of the fineprint, by entering the competition, without losing ownership of your image, you are granting license for the Macular Degeneration Foundation to use and continue to use your image as they see fit for the purpose of endeavoring _"to reduce the incidence and impact of Macular Degeneration in Australia. The Promoter agrees to attribute the entrant as the photographer in all instances."

As such, in my opinion, any photo you submit should be considered as a donation to a worthy cause. I wouldn’t support such terms and conditions for a competition run by a commercial (for profit) organisation however I this case I think it’s reasonable. As usual, read all the terms and conditions before entering.

Thanks for taking the time to read this’

Matt :)
