to escape happiness

Chelsea, you just have to calm down…” Jon cried, “you know I can’t stand to see you like this.
“No! Those idiots! Just because I’m younger doesn’t mean I’m stupid. And it doesn’t mean I was lying either!” she mustered between sobs. “I do know what I saw Jonathan, I really do. The dean hit that girl!”
“I understand Chels, but maybe there’s more to it. Maybe it was another kid that just looked like the dean. Please stop chichi. Somebody will hear you!” Chelsea’s nickname usually made her laugh, and Jon thought he saw a slight smile. But if he did, it vanished quickly.
“I don’t care, they can’t keep me here any longer!” she dove under the bed and pulled out a box.
“what’s that? You know we aren’t allowed to have anything extra. If you get caught you’ll get sent away!” Jon’s curiosity got the best of him, “what’s in it?”
Chelsea opened it and dumped the contents on her bed. “let’s see, an eight pack of lighters, some gum, hardcandy, and two folding knives. Want a piece of candy?”
Jon was dumbfounded, not only were they not allowed to have this stuff, there was enough here to get her kicked out of the orphanage and sent somewhere else.
“lighten up chucklehead. I’m leaving any way.” She said as she dove back under the bed. Jon blushed. She may have been his best friend, but Jon considered her very attractive, and couldn’t really help but look when she couldn’t see. Chelsea had long, fiery red hair, large blue eyes, and a sharp, yet somehow small nose.
