Artist's Description

This made me smile.
The stone reads… In Loving Memory….
But, I supposed, the soul buried here has clearly been forgotten!
Maybe not.

There is something beautiful about an unkempt cemetary. This churchyard is perhaps the worst (or best) I’ve seen. Mother Nature has really got a foothold here. The church here has just been reopened for public viewing, and occasional worship, after years of neglect. I commented to my husband that the yard should have been tidied up a bit. He replied – ‘but think of all the wildlife that must thrive here’ He’s right, of course. Life goes on.

I recall the graves of Christian brothers at a Friary. Each place marked with a simple wooden cross. The theory is that the wood perishes in a relatively short time by when the person should no longer be mourned.
As Christians we grieve someone’s passing and miss them terribly to begin with but our grief should always be tempered with joy and thanksgiving. Thanks to God’s gift of eternal life through the sacrifice of His Son on the Cross we have a sure hope of continuing existence in His glorious Kingdom.

God bless all who sit by the dying and those already grieving. Have courage and trust in the Lord.
