Artist's Description

The Coast Guard Eagle was in Portland Maine at the State Pier for three days. This is a pic of it leaving Portland and heading out to sea.
The ship is 295 feet long. It was built in 1936 in Germany and used as a Nazi training ship. At the end of World War !! she was taken as a war prize by the US and has been a floating training ship since 1946.
I did not see her under full sail, but there are 24,000 square feet of sail, and six miles of rigging!
