A Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus) in flight hunting for prey at Boundary Bay, Tsawwassen, Greater Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Unlike most owls, which are nocturnal, Snowy Owls are diurnal – they hunt and are active both day and night. They will perch and wait patiently to identify their prey, before soaring off in pursuit. Snowy owls have very keen eyesight and hearing, which helps them find prey which is often invisible under thick vegetation or snow cover.
