A pair of Black-winged Stilt, sometimes known as Common Stilt, going through their courtship ritual prior to mating. Their breeding habitat is typically marshes, shallow lakes and ponds. These birds pick up their food from sand or water and mainly eat insects and crustaceans.

The nest site is a bare spot on the ground near water and the birds often nest in small groups, sometimes with Avocets. This pair was photographed at the Kalloni Salt Pans on the Greek Island of Lesvos (Lesbos).
