Baccio Bandinelli’s wonderful sculpture of Hercules killing the fire-breathing Cacus for his tenth labor. Baninelli’s work was laughed at, since he’d hoped to show up Michelangelo’s David. Unfortunately for Bandinelli, Benvenuto Cellini (sculptor of Perseus Beheading Medusa) reportedly said Bendinelli’s Hercules looked like “a sac full of melons.”
Yet again. I pulled the statue’s image from the background and surrounding scaffolding and placed it upon a less-confining black background.
