Dare I

As I consider the world and its sorry state of affairs…
I ask myself why so much envy,
Why so much resentment,
Why so much hate and despair?

Discontent people breed lawless deeds…
Take away enough hope,
And what you get,
Is exactly what you now see.

Its happened before and it will surely happen again…
Oppress people for long enough,
And they’ll eventually follow,
The very worst sort of men.

Politicians, religious leaders, would be benefactors,
Of the common man…
Should you not give of yourself,
Rather than take what you can?

There will be a time, a time, yet to come…
When your legacy will show,
Exactly what it is, you have,
And have not done!

As I consider the world and its sorry state of affairs…
I ask myself, dare I hope, that someday,
Those who lead will be,
Trustworthy people, that actually care!

Dare I?
