The Bird Tribes Return

Birds are an archetypal symbol for the spirit and its freedom from the limitations of the material world.
In 1993, After reading Ken Carey’s book,
‘Return of the Bird Tribes’ -I began to include the bird image in most of my paintings and which constitutes a fundamental source of inspiration for this collection of Paintings. They represent ‘the Bird Tribes’ as the higher dimensional aspects of Being, including our selves .
They hark back to my grandmother’s ancestors, members of the Cherokee Indian Tribe, who believed that Birds were messengers with special spiritual powers. They like many Indian Tribes adorned themselves with feathers during rituals and gatherings, calling on the bird spirits for guidance.
It’s getting cold here in Florida, and the migration of the northern birds is well underway. As they spend time here , landing and chirping in my back yard, They begin nesting in my birdhouses and eating the berries on the trees.
With the repetition of the process each year , they remind me of the changing seasons and the long treks these small creatures endure . I quiet down and listen carefully to the messages and always the inspiration they might bring me this year.
