Artist's Description

My completed interpretation/translation of Mieke Boynton’s “Backlit”

It is a combination of rouache watercolors and water color pencils on 140 lb cold pressed 11×14 Strathmore watercolor paper.

Backlit
by Mieke Boynton

My title comes from Collective Soul’s song “What I Can Give You” – “Twisting the day, I always lose myself so I can find your way.” I always lose myself in my art when I am truly enjoying the project on which I am working.

This was such a fun tree to draw/paint with all of its twists, curves and distinct color changes – it was honor to paint this picture for the Sojie 16 workshop.

I would like to thank Mieke for granting me the opportunity to paint her beautiful photo and thank you to everyone who has posted comments of encouragement throughout the workshop – you are all wonderful and all of your works are inspirational to me!
