Artist's Description

A stray mother cat was brought in to the NYC animal shelter with four practically frozen newborns, having been found abandoned outdoors on a very cold Sunday afternoon. Two workers set up a heat lamp, got some plush towels and sat down on the floor of the Maternity Ward trying to revive each of them. Rubbing their tender little bodies with warm towels heated by the lamp and breathing on them and administering CPR as they did so, even placing them under their shirts against their own warm bodies, one by one each came around, all but one that is. Within maybe 20 minutes, three of the original foursome had made the transition from near-death to regaining their very lives. I watched in amazement all the while recording this remarkable event! This is a photograph of the newborn that died that gray day. She is in my hand and on my mind.
