I never understood my life

I never understood my life
With all its ups and downs
I try to do my best
With both feet on the ground
But even with the best of tries
My head just spins around
For I seem to turn up empty
Why is my life so profound?

I never cared to be rich
Was satisfied with my pay
Put a dollar in the bank
Saved it for another day
Now I find myself
A man without a home
All that was saved
Now spent
Leaving me to roam

(chorus)
So please don’t look at me
Don’t judge this man that’s old
I lived my life graciously
And did what I was told

I have loved many times before
Broke a heart or two
Crushing mine as well
Before the slamming of that door
Now my blood it runs cold
For my heart can’t take no more
Life seems so unfair
And the less I care
As this man is getting old

I never seem to look back
And seldom look ahead
I live my life day to day
And keep my body fed
I have no regrets
Well maybe just a few
It’s just the way things turned out
And there’s not much more
That I can do

(chorus)
So please look at me
Don’t judge this man that’s old
I lived my life graciously
And did what I was told
