Artist's Description

This statue of Lord Nelson was the first erected in Britain and is by Richard Westmacott Jr., RA (1775–1856), who amongst other works created memorials to Pitt the Younger in Westminster Abbey and reliefs on the North side of Marble Arch.

It was made in 1809 paid for by public subscription of £2,500. Which was raised by the ordinary people of Birmingham following Nelson’s visit to the town on 31 August 1802.

A break in an otherwise cloudy sky meant I could get this against clear blue.
