Thank you for considering my art for your home or office. I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember, continuing my journey as an artist to define raw emotions ranging from life, love, freedom and creativity, to frustration, pain and mortality, and everything in between, through color and canvas. My art is inspired by many sources throughout my life. My grandfather was the first to put a pencil in my hand and show me how to draw a pirate’s face (based on those amusing ‘learn to be an artist’ advertisements suggesting one to copy the drawing to gauge your abilities). From a fine art perspective, my influences have included the work of Picasso, Van Gogh, Degas, and Matisse. More recent influences have been Warhol, Pollock, Kandinsky, and Richter.I prefer to create with mixed media, including inks, spray paint and acrylics in order to achieve unique combinations of fluidity, while maintaining strength of color. My signature or trademark is utilizing flowing splashes of color combined with a free-form sculptural technique that rises from the canvas to achieve dimension. I find that my works illustrate my perspective of life in general…a continued effort to define some level of structure and meaning, while constantly challenged by the random forces of nature, society and environment we are all confronted with.I have also been exploring with Digital abstract works. I find this new challenge very appealing, and permits me a provocative and fresh avenue to create free flowing networks of color and line. Technology affects all of us in some way, so why not the world of art as well? Please feel free to critique my work and tell me how I’m doing. I am always excited by the reactions of friends, family and prospective collectors.

Kind Regards,
Mark Compton
