A bit of piece and quiet: Under the colonnade of a mosque courtyard, you can always find a place in the sun – or shade, depending on your needs and the season – to sit and read your newspaper, undisturbed by rambunctious kids. Or loud tourists, for that matter, as even ignorant tourists tend to be in awe of a beautiful place like the Sultanahmet Camii (Blue Mosque), where this man is absorbed in his newspaper.
(The week we were in Istanbul was the week the large earthquake happened in the Van area; many people in Istanbul have family or relatives in that area, so no wonder some folks were really absorbed in their newspapers.)
Of course the architecture here is pretty awesome, too! The reader was handy to provide a bit of scale…
