In the Third Courtyard (Enderûn Avlusu) of the Topkapi Palace the floor of some of the colonnades had beautiful pebble mosaics, some worn shiny by many passing feet. There were many different patterns, some more refined than others.

I don’t know where this type of pebble mosaic work originates: I had previously only seen it in Chinese gardens!
