Artist's Description

Watercolour pencils on cartridge paper This was just one of those doodles that started with one object from where the design grew until the paper was filled! I use very sharp pencils so that the hatching can be controlled.

How sharp should a pencil be? The point should be so long and sharp that the artist can see the paper clearly at all times. A short blunt point will hide the bit of paper where you have to work.

How much water must be used to dampen bits of your design? Hardly any! Dampen the brush in water then wipe once or twice on the skin of your pulse until it feels only slightly damp.

The dark colour that binds the design is made with ultramarine blue and dark brown on top of each other, which was then dampened with a finely pointed brush.
