There are two ships called the Spirit of Tasmania which sail between Devonport in Tasmania and Melbourne Victoria, Australia. They carry passengers, cars and other vehicles and cargo of all description.
The trip across the Bass Strait takes all night and the passengers are accommodated either in cabins with beds or in recliner chairs in open areas. The service is vital to Tasmania providing the transport of agricultural and industrial supplies and products between the island and the mainland of Australia, as well as an alternative mode of transport which has the advantage of allowing people travelling in either direction to take their personal vehicle for use at the other end.
