Artist's Description

Macro shot of the bark of a gum tree at Botanical Gardens, Melbourne, Australia. I flipped the image 90 degrees and it reminded me of the strata you see at an archeological dig … layers of different colored dirt, and in the top layer some shells, which are so often found near the surface of a dig where ancient peoples have lived. As of Dec 2010 this had been viewed over 600 times.

Taken with Nikon D80 1/60s f/9 ISO 400 macro 105mm on tripod.
