Golden Wheat – Botanical illustration

W&N watercolour on Bockingford 300gsm (from my imagination)
.
Wheat (Triticum spp.) is one of the world’s most important food crops. It is believed that wild relatives of wheat first grew in the Middle East. Wheat was one of the first plants to be cultivated. It was grown about 11,000 years ago.
.
Wheat farming is said to be one of the most essential activities in South Africa. Maize is considered to be the most important crop along with sugar cane and wheat cultivation which is being followed on a massive scale. producer of wheat.
.
In the North West Province in South Africa, agriculture forms the second most essential economic activity and as much as 40,000-50,000 hectares of land is being planted with wheat. The grain industry is one of the largest in South Africa, producing between 25% and 33% of the country’s total gross agricultural production.
.
I want to see the wheat that blows
Within the fields of gold,
I want to find the freedom
And the treasures there untold,
I want to hear the bird songs
In early morning skies,
And to witness every sunset
And to watch each dawning rise.
I just want to change my world
I need a brand new start,
And leave the strife of city life
A country boy at heart.
